“It’s hard to believe it’s nearly 30 years since Stephen Hughes and I spent three weeks in the box room of his old house in Birchgrove, choosing the very first collections for what would become Swansea’s newest jewellery shop.
“We invited sales reps to the house to show us their ranges, and after a pretty intense few weeks, we felt confident we could offer Swansea shoppers something special; pieces that really stood out.
“When we opened our first shop on Portland Street (now home to Swansea Building Society), it was just Stephen, myself, and one part-time member of staff. That first Christmas was relentless. From the beginning of November right through to Christmas Day, we worked every day, weekends included. We were determined to make it work.
“I’ve been in the jewellery industry for 36 years and had worked with Stephen before he decided to go it alone. What started back then has grown into one of Wales’ most trusted jewellery stores; and that’s not just my opinion. We’re proud to work exclusively in Wales with Charles Green, one of the UK’s oldest and most respected jewellery manufacturers, with a history spanning over 200 years. They create all of our bespoke pieces, which we co-design with customers for life’s most important moments.
“There have been many highlights over the years, but one that really stands out was selling a pink diamond ring for £36,000; now worth over £150,000 following the closure of Australia’s Argyle mine in 2020, the world’s largest supplier of pink diamonds.
“I’ve also loved seeing how the business has evolved. Our jewellery collections have expanded, our design service grows more popular every year, and our watch repair service is something we’re especially proud of. We’re the only accredited Omega service centre in Wales, and also accredited for Longines, TAG Heuer, Hamilton, Tissot and Seiko.
“From the very first day, I’ve loved my job. I feel incredibly lucky to still be doing something I care so deeply about.”
